FAQ

 Plant Protein Q&As

When should I take it?

There has been a big push in women’s health to recognise the importance of a quality, high protein breakfast which we co-sign. For too long now, busy lives and the benefits of intermediate fasting have meant many women are skipping breakfast and putting themselves at risk for hormone regulation disruption, increased cortisol levels and insulin resistance.

Overall, we want to encourage women to increase their daily protein intake regardless of the time of day or whether they go to the gym or not.

How much protein do I need?

Women need around 46 grams of protein daily. This amount increases due to pregnancy, lactation, exercise levels & health goals.

If your goal is to build muscle mass, you need around 2g of protein per kilogram of bodyweight. So if you weigh 60kg, you will need 120g of protein per day.

What is protein?

Protein is a vital macronutrient made up of amino acids essential for the healthy function of our body’s cells. We need protein for all sorts of functions including:

  • Muscle building and repair
  • All body functions like hormones, enzymes, the immune system
  • Skin, hair and nail health

Is plant-based protein as effective as animal-based protein?

The short answer is that both can be just as effective. It comes down to the quality of the source ingredients and ensuring you get enough of all nine essential amino acids; histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine.

This is important because these amino acids are considered essential because you must get them from food because the body can’t produce them on its own. Our Plant Protein range use a carefully considered blend of organic pea & rice protein which combine to provide a rich source of all 9 amino acids.

What does ‘no nasties’ actually mean?

That’s a great question which many brands would rather you didn’t ask.

No preservatives

Other brands load up on preservatives to keep things shelf stable.

We keep it fresh with no preservatives. We’re not trying to make our products immortal.

No artificial flavours

Many brands rely on fake flavours for taste, but these can cause bloating, gas, and loose stool.

We use real fruit powders and herbs for flavour, giving you yummy taste without the uncomfortable side

No filler or artificial sweeteners

Some brands bulk up products with fillers like sucralose. These add no nutritional value and spike your blood sugar.

No synthetic colours

Other brands use artificial colours for the aesthetics but these can cause bloating, allergic reactions and long-term health issues.

Watch out for these sneaky ones:

  • ALLURA RED (129)
  • TARTRAZINE (102)
  • SUNSET YELLOW (110)

We keep it simple: if you can’t pronounce it, it’s not in there.
