This week we're thrilled to welcome our guest blogger Jill Somerville, owner, and director of Cryo Health Solutions that newly opened in February 2019 on the North Shore. Hailing from the USA with a Masters of Physical Therapy and 15 years experience in the world of rehabilitation she's definitely the gal in the know when it comes to the world of healing.
Cryotherapy is the process of exposing the body to ultra-low temperatures for 1-3 minutes, for extreme results and is used by pro-athletes, weekend warriors and competitors of all levels as an effective technique to alleviate pain & inflammation. But you don’t have to be an athlete to reap the benefits of this treatment. Cryotherapy is widely used for overall health & wellness, as well as, beauty & anti-aging!
It’s the science of what is going on inside your body when you are standing in temperatures of -130 to -150 degrees Celsius. The ultra-cold temperature only affects your skins surface, triggering your thermoreceptors to send electrical impulses to the brain making you ‘think’ you are freezing.
This sends your body into a defensive mode by quickly transporting the body’s blood, nutrients, and resources to the organs in the core. During this process the body starts oxygenating your blood, flushing it of toxins and lactic acid.
Immediately after exiting the cryosauna, your body starts returning to its normal state by increasing the blood flow of your newly oxygenated blood back out to your limbs.
Your body responds to the increased blood flow by dilating the blood vessels to distribute heat. The body starts absorbing the blood, which is now enriched with erythrocytes, oxygen, collagen, and other essential nutrients. The temperature in the cryo sauna that is reached, is also very important. In order to get the release of proteins that help with anti-inflammation, your target temperature must be around -120 to -125 degrees Celsius.
Cryotherapy provides healing support for a wide range of pain, conditions, bodily issues, and depending on the frequency of treatment, can produce both immediate and long-term results.
We provide whole body cryotherapy, local cryotherapy (we can treat a specific area of the body with our targeted method,) and Cryo Facials AKA FROTOX!
The Cryo facials last 10 minutes, so unlike a traditional facial, it’s a quick, easy treatment that will leave your face looking refreshed and glowing. The cold temps help rejuvenate the skin, restoring radiance, improving skin texture and tone, and helps soothe inflammation.
In 5-6 sessions, clients begin to see an improvement in the quality of their skin, such as increased firmness, reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and overall smoothness of the skin. As with everything, weekly or bi-weekly follow up sessions are recommended to maintain a youthful glow.
I look forward to meeting you at our Takapuna clinic and helping you discover how cryotherapy can recover, revitalize and rejuvenate your body and spirit.
