So what makes it blue...?

Sea Mineral Complex

The superfood of the ocean that would be considered the kale of mermaid diets. Sea Mineral Complex is a multi-mineral algae grown on the ocean floor, and is high in bioavailable calcium, magnesium and 72 other trace minerals. Our Sea Mineral Complex has appeared in a number of scientific studies that have proven it’s ability to support bone, joint & digestive health.

Sea Mineral Complex is a sustainable and superior marine source of bioactive calcium which is derived from seaweed - which absorbs calcium and trace minerals from the surrounding seawater. This results in a mineral rich product that has no taste (so don’t worry, Mermaid Latte doesn’t taste like sushi), and is free of chalky texture.

Blue Spirulina

Spirulina is famous for being one of the most nutrient dense superfoods in the world, that NASA has even deemed as worthy of being space food. Our Blue Spirulina is the smurf child of spirulina - it’s literally the blue pigment, also called Phycocyanin, derived from the blue-green algae.

Along with providing a brilliant blue colour that is used to colour food naturally, many studies have shown Phycocyanin is also a powerful antioxidant and supports the bodies response to inflammation. It also helps to detoxify and protect the liver.

Butterfly Pea Flower

Butterfly Pea Flower is an ancient Thai herbal botanical ground to a fine matcha powder. It is commonly used in South East Asia as a tea, and is a potent source of anthocyanin antioxidants and has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic traditions for its medicinal properties and anti-aging effects.

Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is pretty sweet when it comes to health benefits, and is praised for its powerful anti-bacterial and healing properties. Manuka honey is simply honey made from the manuka tree, and is native to New Zealand and Australia. It’s very special when compared to normal honey, because it has a much higher concentration of a natural antibacterial compound called methlglyocal, which is why many people use it to treat wounds, stomach and intestinal imbalances, acne and eczema, sore throats and so much more. The nutritional content of manuka honey is also up to four times higher than that of normal flower honeys.

We source ethically produced and local manuka honey here in Australia for our Mermaid Latte, and we are very passionate about both the benefits and the ethical sourcing of honey. We believe it is important to keep honey in our diet not only for our own health, but to help support bees as they are quickly becoming an endangered species all over the world due to pesticides, pollution and unethical farming. Wherever possible, try and source your local beekeeper and support them instead of mass produced supermarket honey (which is often filled with artificial sugar syrups), to help keep them in the business of keeping their bees happy and our planet alive. Seriously, if bees become extinct, so do we (Einstein said it first).

Adaptogenic Herbs

If you’re a bit of a stress head, your body could be producing too much cortisol, known as the stress and ageing hormone, which can wreak havoc on your entire body, especially your thyroid and adrenals. Too much stress and chronically elevated cortisol can lead to anxiety, chronic fatigue, colds, hormone imbalances and a range of other issues.

Adaptogenic herbs are very unique in their ability to help your body deal with cortisol. Ashwaganda, Siberien Ginseng, Liquorice and Milk Thistle all help aid stress relief and energy production by balancing cortisol levels and supporting adrenal function. So if you’re worried about cheating on your morning caffeine hit with Mermaid Latte, then worry not because the adaptogenic herbs have got your back!

Ayurvedic Chai Spices

Our Mermaid Latte contains the Ayurvedic spices ginger, cardamom, cassia cinnamon, clove, star anise, cayenne powder and black pepper, which make up the irresistible and aromatic chai flavours. Ayurveda is one of the oldest holistic healing systems that is still used in Indian culture today. These spices are traditionally used to enhance digestion and metabolism, lower blood pressure, reduce stress, balance hormones, reduce inflammation, help with sleep, and promote healthy and glowing skin.

So unleash your inner mermaid, sprinkle the magic into your morning or afternoon latte and enjoy the many benefits of our Mermaid Latte!
